'Activity Breaks - Sports Adventure - Weekend Activities'

<<>> Activity Breaks and sports adventure getaway activities are becoming more popular for many different reasons.

They can be suited to all age groups;

families, singles, seniors, and mixed age groups too.

For links Scoll down or use left navigation bar.

There was a time when ‘activity break’ meant either male (usually young) or children, but how things have changed.

Now, any age group, any ability, and good for families to do things together, also good for singles as they can join a group with the same interests.

The other big advantage is that these breaks vary widely in cost, so you can spend as much or as little as you like and go as near to or far from home as you want to.

This is such a wide subject it is difficult to know where to start.

We will list as many as we can and then you can visit each page for further information.

Of course, activity is not always outdoors.

You can learn to paint.

Cook.

Dance.

Make pottery.

Make jewellery.

Learn new skills.

Take a course on creative writing.

Become a circus performer for a week … the list goes on !

And, for outdoors there are activities break from A-Z , Archaeology to Zoology and probably something for every letter in between.

Although we do not generally associate a holiday with benefits other than a rest, when it comes to weekend activity breaks the benefits are wide ranging.

If we choose an indoor activity it could be one that hones a skill of some kind i.e. painting, cooking etc and with it the satisfaction of becoming better at something that interests us.

There could also be the benefit of making new friends and rather than honing a skill you could try something entirely new.

If you are the type of person who likes more physical activity and being outside, also you may enjoy a challenge, then there will be certainly something to suit your taste.

As with the indoor activities, you may want to go a little further with something you enjoy or try something new.

Even if you are not the very fit outdoor type but want to try an outdoor activity break I have heard of a Company who does ‘cycling for softies’ which I think is self explanatory.

Which leads on to say that all activity holidays are not necessarily linked to basic accommodation or ‘roughing it’.

Mind you, for many who enjoy adventure breaks the more basic the better they like it.

You are not even bound by the seasons.

There are family activity breaks and adventure-based holidays all year round.

In winter there are the usual skiing breaks and ski holidays but you can also go on a snowmobile or husky sled safari .If you like the cold crisp weather there are many unusual 4 or 5 day breaks with varied activities.

A lot of the time the weather is immaterial on an adventure break, sometimes people just want to push the boundaries and look for more & more unusual, out of the ordinary things to do.

You might fancy walking the Great Wall of China, or learning to drive a husky team but the top activities are:

Trekking.

Sailing.

Canoeing.

Cycling.

Climbing.

Diving.

Skiing.

Snowboarding.

And multi-activity breaks where you can have a go at a number of different sports and activities.

For instance you could have a weekend trying your hand at tennis, abseiling and combining these with indoor activities.

Not all activities require you to be an action man (or woman). <<>>

As the first on our A-Z list shows.

You could try an archaeological dig, which is gentler, but you would have to be the patient type and you would still be enjoying the outdoors.

How about learning to skydive for a touch of excitement

These kind of activity short breaks can be really enjoyable.

As mentioned above, not all activity breaks mean basic accommodation and roughing it.

Some cycling and walking breaks, especially in Europe are linked to excellent accommodation and gourmet food.

The best of all worlds food, eat to your heart’s content and work it off the next day.

Not a shred of guilt in sight with activity breaks.
