Visit Alaska Cruises and Things To Do Enjoy The Wilderness From Vancouver

<<>>

Vancouver Alaska cruises is often the starting point when people visit Alaska.

But nowadays many people are making the country a direct vacation spot.

It is BIG!

Its name is derived from the Aleut, meaning "the mainland" or the "great land".

The USA bought this land from Russia on March 30, 1867, for $7.2 million at about two cents per acre.

It became the 49th state of the U.S. on January 3, 1959.

The largest state of the United States by area.

And the least densely populated state of the U.S.

The only part of the USA within the Arctic Circle.

Approximately half of its residents live within the Anchorage metropolitan area.

So there is lots of wide open space.

There are five distinct regions: Inside Passage, Southcentral, Interior, Far North and Southwest.

Visit Alaska towns and cities such as Anchorage, Fairbanks, Gustavus, Haines, Juneau, Seward, Skagway, and Sitka are just a few. These have unique characters and you are assured a warm welcome wherever you go.

Alaska things to do and see is very subjective but by and large this country appeals to those who like the great outdoors.

The best way to approach it is to pick a base and from there take good day excursions and guided tours.

You could hike on an ice age glacier, fly over the pristine wilderness in a "bush" plane, take a dog sled ride, experience rafting, kayaking or jet boat rides. And then there's snowboarding, skiing, skating, hockey and ice fishing,

You could relive the gold rush excitement with one of the many river boat cruises or try your hand fishing for world-class halibut and salmon.

Here you can find some of the most spectacular fly-fishing, saltwater fishing, freshwater fishing and even ice fishing in the world. With over 3 million lakes, 3,000 rivers and countless fish-filled streams, you can see the challenge isn't catching fish, but deciding what kind to catch and where!

You could learn more of the state’s unique Native culture by visiting cultural and historical museums and heritage centers. Watch native dancing, blanket tossing, totem carving. Listen to traditional native music.

You could take a day cruise to Glacier Bay, Kenai Fjords and Prince William Sound. From these cruises you would be able to enjoy the Alaskan coast with its dramatic mountain scenery, tidewater glaciers and abundant wildlife. See whales, seals, sea lions, sea otters, mountain goats, brown and black bears pointed out by naturalists on board your cruise. Day cruises can be arranged from many ports along the coast.

Alaska is full of widerness adventures, from the mild to the wild, which you can experience for yourself on Alaska vacations.

It is home to Denali National Park and North America’s highest peak, the awe-inspiring, 20,320 foot Mount McKinley. Penetrated by just one road, 91 miles long the park’s dynamic glaciated landscape supports a diversity of wildlife, including grizzly bears, caribou, wolves, Dall sheep and moose. Birds and wildflowers grace summer slopes. Visitors enjoy sightseeing, backpacking, and mountaineering.

One of the most popular ways to visit this area is on a Cruise Boat from say Vancouver.

These cruisers feature restaurants, lounges, entertainment, casinos, health clubs, movie theaters, libraries, and more.

There are many cruise itineraries available from different departure points such as Vancouver and Seattle.

You view the glaciers, gorges, waterfalls, forests and lakes together with the wildlife – brown bears and eagles, whales, sea otters and more –all from the comfort of your ship.

With cruises from Vancouver and Seattle the highlights generally include Glacier Bay National Park, Tracy Arm, College Fjord in Prince William Sound, and interesting ports like Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan.

Shore excursions are available in each port of call, including Vancouver and Seattle.

How ever you choose to visit, a direct flight or a cruise from Vancouver, Alaska offers some of the world's most spectacular scenery and something for everyone.

Whether novice or expert, the experience will exceed your expectations.

What are you waiting for – book your trip!
