Alberta with a capital city of Edmonton and the motto ‘Strong and Free’. Named after the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria. Princess Louise Caroline Alberta.
British Columbia with a capital city of Victoria and the motto ‘Splendour without diminishment’. Named by Queen Victoria after the river Columbia which was named after a ship and emphasising the British connection.
Mannitoba with a capital city of Winnipeg and the motto Glorious and Free’. Named in reference to an Indian superstition of a spirit “manito” beating a drum.
New Brunswick with a capital city of Fredericton and the motto ‘Hope was restored’. Named after the British Royal House of Brunswick.

Nunavut with a capital city of Iqaluit and the motto ‘Numavut, our strength’. Named with an Inuktitut word which means ‘our land’.
Ontario with a capital city of Toronto and the motto ‘Loyal she began, loyal she remains’. Named with an Iroquois word which means ‘beautiful water’.
Prince Edward Island with a capital city of Charlottetown and the motto ‘The small under the protection of the great’. Named after the father of Queen Victoria. Prince Edward Augustus.
Quebec with a capital city of Quebec City and the motto ‘I remember’. Named with an Algonquin word which means ‘narrow passage’.
Saskatchewan with a capital city of Regina and the motto ‘From many peoples strength’. Named with a Cree word which means ‘swiftly flowing river’.
Yukon with a capital city of Whitehorse and again doesn’t seem to have a motto. Named with a Locheux word which means ‘ great river’.
