Scotland and breathtaking scenery are inseparable. So if you want break from shops and pavements head for the Highlands.

Fort William is a good base and the best advice is to find a good B & B (not difficult) and just enjoy all that nature has to offer.

You don’t have to be a seasoned mountaineer to walk along the many paths, which is definitely the best way to enjoy your short break in this beautiful part of the UK.

Wales is more compact for your cheap UK breaks but has so much to offer.

The cities of Cardiff and Swansea have many attractions,

Cardiff being the home of the Welsh National Opera with a superb Opera House.

There are the newly regenerated waterfront areas which many people find enjoyable for simply wandering around and stopping for the occasional latte or cappuccino.

Like Scotland, Wales has many areas of outstanding natural beauty; the Gower peninsula is probably the most famous.

The range of areas to explore is quite diverse.

Mountains and coast, castles and old railways and the most famous of all these is the little train that will take you to the top of Snowden, unless you prefer to walk.

Northern Ireland is often overlooked as a cheap UK break destination but there are plenty of ferries and flights’ so getting there probably takes less time than the drive to the Scottish Highlands.

The most prominent city is Belfast, which is of course home to the Stormont.

Now that Belfast is a safe place to visit it is a very pleasant destination for shopping and relaxing.

There is always the wonderful Irish welcome even though it is part of the UK.

If it is natural beauty you are after then Northern Ireland has it in abundance and the most visited area is the Giants Causeway.

This unusual formation of ancient rocks is fascinating and just begs to be walked along.
