China Great Wall Chinese Travel Beijing Xian & Shanghai etc

<<>>

Tour China guide for culture and Chinese travel Great Wall, Xian, Beijing and Shanghai.

China is one of the oldest civilizations in the world.

Dating back to the Xia dynasty in 2200BC.

It has a written history of more than four thousand years.

Said to be the place where the compass, gunpowder, papermaking and printing were invented.

It is a country rich with cultural relics and historical sites. A place to travel in.

Being the third largest country in the world it covers a total land area of nine point six million square kilometres, across four time zones.

It ranges from the Himalayas in the south to the Mongolian deserts in the north, and from the East China Sea to the western Tibetan Plateau.

As the worlds most populous country it is home to almost twenty percent of the planets people. This is a place to travel.

A multi-national country comprised of fifty-six nationalities with the Han people make up over ninety one percent of the total population. The remainder is made up of fifty-five different ethnic minorities.

The People's Republic of China is administratively divided into twenty-three provinces, five autonomous regions, four centrally administrative municipalities and two special administrative regions.

For travel the best time to visit the main tourist areas are April, May, September and October when the weather is the most comfortable. But of course being such a big landmass there is a great variety of climatic conditions that the traveller needs to be aware of.

For example, the northern Province of Heilongjiang has a winter climate the year round and doesn’t really have a summer. The island of Hainan, however, has a summer climate all year round without a winter season.

Among the many things to see and do on your travel tour is a visit to the Great Wall.

Qin Shi Huangdi, the first emperor of China, built this ancient landmark over 2,000 years ago.

One of the largest building construction projects ever completed at over 6,400 km (4000 miles). It stretches across the northern mountains north and northwest of the Capital Beijing with a width from about 4.5 to 9 meters (15 to 30 feet) and up to 7.5 meters (25 feet) tall.

Another ancient project to admire is the Grand Canal, which is the world's oldest and longest canal. The building of the canal began in 486 B.C. during the Wu Dynasty. When finished it was 1,795 Km (1,114 miles) long, travelling from Hangzhou to Beijing, with 24 locks and some 60 bridges.

The Forbidden City in the center of Beijing is another treasure that draws tourist from around the world.

This is a travel destination in its own right.

The city of more 800 buildings derived its name because it was off-limits to most of the world for five hundred years.

This was the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

It is the world's largest palace complex and covers 74 hectares. Surrounded by a six-meter deep moat and a ten-meter high wall.

The Forbidden City is divided into two parts.

The southern section, or the Outer Court was where the emperor exercised his supreme power over the nation. The northern section, or the Inner Court was where he lived with his royal family. Until 1924 when the last emperor of China was driven from the city.

This event is covered in the film 'The Last Emperor'.

The city of Xian and the Terracotta Warriors make a marvellous visit for your travel tour.

The first Emperor of China created the 8000 life-size terracotta warriors to protect his tomb. He had 70,000 workers build his tomb and fill it with treasures. His 3000 wives and concubines travelled with him to the grave.

The visitor center at Xian is modern and well laid out and houses a very informative museum as well as the warriors and ongoing excavations.

Xian is a city worth travelling to for its culteral mix and imposing city walls.

Staying with the city theme.

If you travel Shanghai you will find a booming, vigorous and energetic city, built around the Huangpu River.

The Shanghai Bund with its wide promenade on the east bank makes a lovely evening stroll as the early twentieth century buildings are lit up.

Running up from the Shanghai Bund is the famous Nanjing Road, which is considered to be the best commercial street in China. Here are more than 600 shops and shopping malls side by side along the 5.5 kilometres Shanghai road.

Over the river on the west bank is the Shanghai Pudong district that is full of modern skyscrapers and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower is the modern symbol of Shanghai City.

An evening cruise along the Huangpu River shows the Pudong at its best. Shanghai is a great city to visit on your travels.

For tranquillity visit the area around Guilin with a Li River cruise. Located in the southwest Guangxi province Guilin is renowned for its natural beauty. Here are the bamboo grooves, sleepy villages and tree-covered peaks of limestone formations.

Another natural wonder is the tiger leaping gorge one of the deepest clefts in the world. It measures 16km long and is a towering 3900m from the Jinsha River.

The Panda is one of the county’s iconic symbols and the National Panda Reserve and Sanctuary established in 1963 in the mountains outside Chengdu is a great place to see them.

There are many other places to visit on your travel tour and deciding on what to see is the major problem.

Don't just talk about about visiting China.

Find out for yourself what it's really like.

Travel there.
