Traditional Climbing Holidays Which Give Fun and Excitement.

<<

>>

Traditional climbing holidays can be found almost anywhere around the world.

They offer adventure fun and excitement for all levels.

These breaks can be tailored to a new beginner or to a real advanced climber.

You can find them from cheap to expensive.

The choice is yours.

A climb in its purest form is simply the activity of using your hands and feet to get to the summit of a building, boulder, cliff, or mountain.

How you do it, is self expression.

I don’t climb but I hike in areas where a lot of various forms of the sport takes place.

I’ve enjoyed watching people bouldering on the grit edges of the Derbyshire Peak District, scaling the knife edges of Ben Nevis and climbing the ‘Old Man of Hoy’ in the United Kingdom.

I’ve been in awe of the overnighters on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park and met those returning from Mount Everest in Namche Bazaar Nepal.

All loved their sport and don’t think it is particularly dangerous because they are highly skilled in what they do.

Lots of people climb for recreational enjoyment, fun, and the buzz of confronting and being in control of fear.

You need physical fitness and mental toughness because it is a risky sport that requires both skill and nerve for success.

This is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and one of the reasons is the introduction of the artificial wall.

It offers the beginner a safe and controlled environment, so they can quickly and safely learn the much-needed skills involved in being a climber.

The indoor wall aims to mirror the outdoors without the risk. You can of course use indoor climbing as a way to get and keep fit and many people do.

But most use the indoor wall as a means to get outdoors and really climb.

Learning to be safe in a very dangerous sport is the beginning of this sport, where your life and the life of your climber buddy rests on doing things correctly.

This needs to be repeated in a real situation of outdoor climbing because even the best indoor climb is no substitute for the real thing.

“Mountains are not fair or unfair - they are just dangerous”. Reinhold Messner.

“The mountains will always be there, the trick is to make sure you are too”. Hervey Voge.

“If you don't let go, you can't fall off!” Jerry Moffat.

Every time you go climbing away from the safety of the wall, on holiday or other situations, you are potentially risking your life and limb.

In real climbs things do go wrong gear malfunctions, rocks fall and people fall off. It’s all part of the fun!

When starting outdoors it’s always wise to get good clear instruction from someone who knows what they are doing because you are putting your life in their hands. You need to trust them 100%.

The sport breaks down into various categories and you may choose one or all disciplines. It up to you and what you find ‘rocks your boat’. There is the traditional, sport and bouldering for rocks, as well as mountaineering and ice climbs.

The famous climber George Leigh Mallory, summed up the sport with this quote in 1922. “What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy. And joy is, after all, the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money. We eat and make money to be able to enjoy life. That is what life means and what life is for”.

So whether you’re a beginner or a highly seasoned advanced climber you will find something to your taste on the Internet. You will find a full range of general and specialist climbing holidays or courses aimed at climbers of all experiences.
