Clumber Park Nottinghamshire is just off the main A1 road where Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire meet.
The three thousand eight hundred acre park, which is an English National Trust property, is an island of green open space with something for all age groups.
It offers great walking, cycling routes, picnic and barbecue areas with plenty of room for your camper or caravan..
As you enter from the A1 side you drive down the hundred and seventy year old Lime tree Avenue, which at almost three miles long is the longest double avenue of lime trees in Europe.
This is a marvellous entrance because whatever time of year you visit it provides great colour and texture. From the vivid green of the new shoots and leaves in the springtime to the golden carpets of the autumn fall.
Amongst the trees and shrubs there are plenty places to park and there is the Clumber Park caravan site on your right as you drive down the avenue.
At the end of the lime trees you can turn left down into the central information and services area.
Here you can find out more about the Park's history and landscape in The Clumber Story exhibitions that include interactive displays, videos and a model of the House that used to be on this site.
There is also a fully licensed restaurant serving a range of delicious local and seasonal dishes with hot and cold snacks. The Simple Foods kiosk is open during peak times and there is a large National Trust shop together with a plant sales area offering locally made products and souvenirs.
There is a children’s woodland adventure playground and you can hire bicycles, buggies and child seats just opposite the car park. There is over twenty miles of easy cycle routes in the park. You can also hop on board a tractor and trailer ride.
The walled kitchen garden has a four hundred and fifty foot long glasshouse and magnificent herbaceous borders offering a variety of colours and smells to delight.
The Victorian Arboretum shows off exotic plants, such as rhododendron and mock orange shrubs that add a splash of colour and fragrance to the magnificent display of trees.
You can meander along the paths here and watch the squirrels and the many varieties of birds. This area was designed in the eighteenth century to offer the Dukes and their families secluded and beautiful walks.
Set on the edge of the Arboretum is Clumber Chapel that was built in the late eighteen hundreds. Its one hundred and eighty foot spire provides a picturesque backdrop for your photographs.
The man-made serpentine lake offers a four-mile walking and cycling route around its banks or you can take a short cut across the lake on a little boat. The lake is home to over two hundred species of birds such as mallards, swans, geese and coots and the whole of the park is a wildlife haven.
In addition to the caravan site there is other accommodation available in the park. You can hire a camping pod that provides accommodation for up to five people. There is also a twenty-two foot Mongolian yurt for hire that sleeps up to 8 people.
The three thousand eight hundred acre parkland offers peaceful woodlands and magnificent lake at its heart. It is a place where you can explore, have fun and relax with your family and friends. Whether you enjoy walking, cycling, strolling or just lazing, Clumber Park offers something for everyone to enjoy.
