Global Cycling Biking Holiday France UK & Other Tours and Trips

<<

>>

People choose world cycling biking holidays for many different reasons.

To enjoy an active leisure break, a family time together or a competitive race.

A quick search on the Internet lets you see exactly what is available.

Biking of course is more that a sport or a holiday as it is a means of transportation for many.

With the move towards all things green to cycle is becoming more popular.

With traffic congestion, health and environmental issues bike ownership is increasing as are riding courses.

Many people who are not keen on biking on the busy roads love to getaway at weekends or holidays to enjoy cycling. There are many places throughout the world that are set up and dedicated to the bike. This makes them ideal for the recreational rider.

The main item of equipment is of course the bike.

You need to get the right one for how you will use it.

There are many different bike types from hundreds of manufacturers at different prices.

The style of bike you buy needs to be tailored to how you will use your bike and the type of biking you will do.

Road Bikes

Road bikes are usually lightweight, thin-tired bikes, often with drop-handlebars. Whilst road bikes are made for tarmac road riding, they're not designed for use off road. They are really single purpose. To ride on hard surfaced roads.

Folding Bikes

Many people especially in cities struggle for storage space – or want to combine their cycling with other kinds of transport. Folding bikes are ideal because they pack down small for storage and will fit in car boots, on trains and buses.

I have one that is like a mini mountain bike and I ride it mostly in a local country park. Great fun!

Lots of people use these types of bikes for the end of a commute. To beat congestion and parking charges as well as keeping fit.

Mountain Bikes

The most popular bike is the mountain bike, which has a very strong frame and robust wheels, powerful brakes, wide knobbly tyres, a multi range gearing system and a comfortable riding position. These are designed for rough terrain like mountain tracks but can be used on hard roads.

They perform even better on hard roads if you swap the tyres or wheels over to smooth. These bikes are ideal for the weekend sports rider and holidays.

Hybrid Bikes

Is a cross between a road and mountain bike.

The Right Size

Make sure your bike is the right size for you they are adjustable for comfort but sizing does vary. Try out different sizes and get expert help on getting a size tailored to you. Whether for regular use or holidays.

The Right Gear

Visit any bike shop online or offline and you will see more additional equipment than bikes. So what do you need for cycling?

Helmet – This is a major safety item so get one that fits well and you can wear all day when you're biking. As in all sports safety should come first. Everyday or on holidays.

Clothing – Is really optional but in reality clothing that is good at wicking sweat away is best. Also a good high visibility waterproof jacket makes sense as well.

Lights – If you will be riding in fading light or darkness you will need a set of good quality lights. See and be seen should be your mantra.

Lock – It’s sad but true people do steal bikes so if you are leaving your bike unattended lock it up, with a good quality lock.

Breakdown

As with anything mechanical things can break, even on holiday, so you need to be prepared.

Multitools – These are like a ‘swiss’ folding penknife with screwdrivers, spanners and allen keys all together. Make sure you have a tool for all fittings on your bike. Also have a couple of tyre levers.

Spare Tubes – Carry spare tubes because punctures happen and it’s much easier to change your inner tube than try to fix a puncture.

Pump – Always carry an air pump that is easy to use to pump up your tyres. Having your tyres at the right pressure makes for easier riding.

Enjoy

Now you’re ready to go and have somefun.

Biking holidays France are popular because the country roads are quite and the alpine region is a big draw.

Biking holidays UK are treasured because so much variety is available.

If you're a brand new cyclist or perhaps you haven't ridden for a while, there's no better way of improving your skills and confidence than getting some cycling training from an experienced cyclist or a cycling course.
