Egypt Visit for Culture and Fun
<<>>
This Egypt information guide is here to help you see the country and
the Egyptian culture that is ... more than its past or history.
Covering an area of about one million square kilometers
it has borders on the Mediterranean Sea to the north.
The Gaza Strip and Israel to the northeast.
The Red Sea to the east.
Sudan to the south and Libya to the west.
Today the economy depends mainly on agriculture,
petroleum, Suez Canal traffic and tourism.
Every year the Nile floods and The Gift of the Nile replenishes and renews the agricultural land.
So the great majority of its population live near the banks of the Nile where the only farmland is found.
About half of its residents live in urban areas and the other half across the densely-populated centres of greater Cairo, Alexandria and other major cities.
Most people who think of and visit Egypt think of antiquities, monuments and temples but it offers much more.
More people visit here for beach vacations then for any other reason.
Choosing to relax on the Red Sea or Sinai coasts to enjoy great scuba diving, golf, fishing and other activities.
For many, Egyptian vacations offer great value, sand and sea holidays with relaxation and sports.
There are only two seasons: a mild winter from November to April and a hot summer from May to October. The days are normally warm or hot, and nights can be cool.
Most rain falls along the coast, but even the wettest area, around Alexandria, there is only about 200 millimeters a year. The areas south of Cairo have hardly any rain at all. And some areas go years without it.
There is also a hot spring wind, known to Europeans as the sirocco and to locals as the khamsin.
If you like hot and dry then this is the place to be.
Certainly, the country is famous for its ancient civilization and some of the world's most famous monuments are here. And that ancient world heritage appeals widely.
To buy a good guide is valuable as there is so much to see and do.
In Cairo there are many things to see such as the Pyramids and the Great Sphinx. The much-visited Antiquities Museum is not to be missed, as is the Citadel and Khan el-Khalili market or souk.
Other places of interest are covered on
the Cairo page.
There are wonderful temples all down the Nile with Karnak at Luxor and
Abu Simbel, below Aswan, being favourites.
Visit Luxor.
This is a country with a great cultural mix,
both historical and modern.
Also there is the religious cultural mix of Sunni Muslims and Coptic Christians.
As you sail down the Nile, for example,
you will soon distinguish each village religion by either the elevated moon or cross.
You will find on your egypt holidays that in general, the people are warm and friendly towards visitors.
Armed with a good Egypt guide your visit will be a wonderful and unforgettable experience.
ENJOY!
