The Best Weekend Getaways for Couples and Families
<<>>
The best weekend getaways couples can experience is particular to them and their circumstances.
Each will have different stories from different places.
A weekend away can be as rejuvenating as a week or more, if you choose somewhere that doesn’t involve too much travelling.
Wherever you are in the world there is a whole variety of weekend breaks to choose from.
There are a few ‘rules’ to follow to ensure a good weekend break.
The first one I have already mentioned.
The less travelling involved the better.
This doesn’t mean you have to stay in your own country for your weekend breaks, wherever you live there are short flights to an interesting city or area of specific interest.
If you live in the US you have easy access to loads of cities and areas for outdoor activities without leaving the Country.
Also, most of us have an airport not too far away.
The thing is to keep your actual flight quite short. For me three hours is about the maximum I want to fly if I am only going for the weekend.
I suppose I should mention that lots of people from the UK spend the weekend in New York so if the time difference works in your favour then a longer flight would work.
The second ‘rule’ is, if you are flying keep luggage to a minimum.
You would think this is obvious and who would take a case to check in just for a short break. I know people who would!
It saves so much time at both ends to walk straight off the plane and, thereby getting near the front of the queue at Passport Control and so into a taxi and you’re away. This could give you an extra hour or so at your destination.
I always think planning is key to most vacations (unless you plan to just laze by the pool which takes no planning).
I suppose some of you fly away to somewhere just to chill out in the sun but if you are visiting a city you can save precious hours by spending a little time planning. I enjoy this part almost as much as the break itself.
The planning bit is just as important whether you are flying off somewhere or travelling a short distance from home.
Personally I enjoy cities and I enjoy the countryside too.
Weekend getaways families or a couple doesn’t have to be spent doing nothing for you to feel refreshed and ready for another working week.
The key, as I am sure you will agree, is to do something you enjoy and to set aside the time to do it and not think about anything else.
This can be climbing a mountain, which is what we have done on more than one occasion, or any other activity you love to do.
It can be visiting a city to visit the museums, art galleries and theatres (which can be as exhausting as climbing a mountain!). It could be learning a new skill or at least getting a taster.
You could try something you have never done before, a Spa, cooking, bungee jumping, learning to swim, horse riding…
There is a whole range of places to stay too.
It needn’t be a hotel; it could be a boat or home accommodation (sometimes known as bed & breakfasts), a farm or ranch
Weekend getaways can be spent with a group of like-minded friends, or joining a group there. It could be a ‘boys or girls only’ time or spent with a partner.
Very often a weekend getaway is often synonymous with romance.
These are the kind of getaways that are often dreamed about from those young and in love, to harassed parents right through to seniors (yes!).
We all have our own idea of what romantic means and if your idea is champagne, flowers and chocolates in a luxury hotel then you won’t have any trouble sorting it out unless you are hoping your significant other will do it.
However, if your idea of ‘romantic’ is enjoying the amazing view from the top of a mountain make sure the person you take with you has the same idea.
