Kuala Lumpur Travel For Hotels and K L City Guide

<<>>

Kuala Lumpur travel is booming as more and more people discover Kuala Lumpur City.

The focal point of a new modern and growing Malaysia.

Kuala hotels are doing great business as KL travel takes off.

To make the most of your visit to KL city you will need a good Kuala Lumpur guide. To maximise your enjoyment of KL get your Kuala Lumpur city guide here

The Original name for Kuala was Pengkalan Lumpur which means bundle of mud.

As time passed the name changed to Kuala Lumpur which literally means “muddy confluence” in Bahasa Melayu.

In just 150 years, Kuala Lumpur Malaya has gone from a tin prospector’s hovel in the jungle to a thoroughly modern buzzing city symbolised by the majestic Petronas Towers.

Yet it still retains the colourful Kuala culural quarters of Chinatown, Little India and Kampung Baru, housing KL’s Chinese, Indian and Malay communities.

Kuala Lumpur travel suggestions.

Go up to the viewing bridge at the PETRONAS Twin Towers. The towers design is based on simple Islamic geometric forms of two interlocking squares creating a shape of eight-pointed stars. Which reflect the paramount Islamic principles of unity within unity, harmony, stability and rationality.

With a height of 1,453 feet it’s one of the world's tallest buildings and dominates the KL skyline. The towers have become the symbols for the astounding growth that has taken place in Malaysia over recent history. The twin towers are named after Malaysia's government-owned oil company Petronas.

One of the enduring memories of your visit to Kuala is to view from the suburbs, the glowing towers above the jungle canopy at twilight on the KL skyline.

For shopping and eating pay a visit to KLCC a shopping mall right under the twin towers.

A visit to the KL Aquaria next to the twin towers is an excellent choice. This 60,000 sq. Ft. aquarium highlights include a unique touch pool with Bamboo Shark, Horseshoe Crabs and Starfish, a daily Piranha feeding show, a jellyfish collection and a panoramic 2.5 million-litre living ocean. These together many other attractions will give you a great time.

While on the wildlife theme why not visit one of the largest aviaries in the world at KL Bird Park in the serene and scenic Lake Gardens. As you enter look out for the troops of monkeys in the trees around you.

Set in 20.9 acres the free-flight walk-in aviary is just like stepping into an enormous birdcage.

Don’t forget to visit the Hornbill Restaurant & Cafe. If you sit in the open veranda your meal will be accompanied by the wing-flapping sounds and elegant calling of majestic Rhinoceros Hornbills. They will sit right next to you.

Stroll around Kuala from the Moorish-inspired Old Railway Station, past the electric blue dome of the National Mosque to the evocative British colonial buildings in Merdeka Square. This was once the focal point, and cricket green, of the British colonial presence in Malaysia.

Take the lift to the observation deck of the 421 m high Kuala Lumpur Tower, a tall communication tower built in 1995.

From here, you can enjoy magnificent views of KL city and unparalleled views of the Petronas Towers.

If you go just before sunset you’ll be able to watch the towers turn to gold as the city lights up below you.

The tower also acts as the Islamic falak observatory.

On your Kuala Lumpur travel tour take a ride on the KL Monorail for a quick city view.

Climb the 272 steps to the historic Hindu temples in Batu Caves. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu or Batu River, which flows past the hill. Batu Caves is also the name of the nearby village.

You can't miss it as a large Gold colored statue graces the flight of steps you have to climb. Located in Gombak district KL, the Batu Caves are an intriguing place.

A massive limestone hill, said to be around 400 million years old, houses a series of caves and cave temples dedicated to Lord Murugan, a son of Shiva.

The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India. And it is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia. It is held in the last week of January or the beginning of February, depending on the alignment of the sun, moon and planets.

The festival of Thaipusam is about faith, endurance and penance. Yet it's a dynamic, colourful, happy yet devotional event which can stretch for 3 or 4 days, and attracts around one and a half million people each year.

The festival of Thaipusam was brought to Malaysia in the 1800s, when Indian immigrants started to work on the Malaysian rubber estates and the government offices.

It was first celebrated at the Batu Caves in 1888. Since then it's become an important expression of cultural and religious identity to Malaysians of Tamil Indian origin, and it's now the largest and most significant Hindu public display in the country.

Be careful of the monkeys here as they will snatch at food and bags and have been known to bite.A little care is worthwhile.

Try a meal at the many food stalls along Jalan Alor. The hundreds of food stalls serve a mind-boggling variety of Malay, Chinese, Indian, Thai and Indonesian specialities.

Kuala Lumpur travel experiences will live with you forever. <<>>
