Lake Tahoe City and Heavenly Ski Resort .

<<

>>

Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America and is a jewel set in the golden state of California.

Its water is said to be 99.9% pure and you’ll be amazed at how clear the water is.

When the weather is still it's hard to tell the water is there.

There are sixty-three rivers and streams pouring into it. And only one flowing out of it and that is the Truckee River.

Every day around 1,400,000 tons of water evaporates from its surface.

It also never freezes over because of the constant movement of the water.

Tahoe City is just one of the many places to visit scattered around the lakes seventy-two mile shoreline.

A leisurely drive around the lake gives you plenty of places to stop and stroll and places to visit.

Places like Fallen Leaf Lake, Emerald State Park, Stateline, Tahoe Vista, Kings Beach, Glen brook and Zephyr Cove to name just a few.

If you prefer to hike you could tackle sections of the famous Tahoe Rim Trail a spectacular 165-mile hike.

This is a walk that covers two states, California and Nevada and meanders between the peaks and wilderness areas that surround the lake.

The peaks around the lake are Freel Peak at 10,891 ft, Monument Peak at 10,067 ft), Pyramid Peak at 9,983 ft, and Mt. Tallac at 9,735 ft.

Lake Tahoe has been a tourist destination since the turn of the 20th century, when steam trains made it an easy journey and the improving road system and rising automobile ownership made it accessible.

People tend to divide the body of water into two, Lake South, where Heavenly Ski Resort is located and Tahoe Lake North, where the 1960 Winter Olympics were held at Squaw Valley.

The Ski resort Tahoe areas such as Heavenly, not only offers winter sports but also great views and access to hikes etc.

The Gondola at Heavenly whisks up to 8-passenger per glass cabin up the mountain nearly two and a half miles for breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada mountain range. You can hop off, only on the way up, at an observation deck at around the half waypoint, for great views.

At the top are further ski lifts for the various heavenly runs into California or Nevada.

The Stateline is popular for outdoor sports in the heavenly region and for the Casino’s in Nevada.

Many people like the reality of playing through the day at places like heavenly and gambling at night.

Another way to view the lake and appreciate its beautiful setting is to take a cruise to Emerald Bay and the Vikingsholm castle.

You will see for yourself the clearness of the water and the shift in its color depending on the light. Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the USA after Crater Lake in Oregon it’s about twenty two miles long and twelve miles wide.

It is a great area to visit.
