There are many mexican sites to visit such as Uxmal which was built between the 7th and 9th centuries with the main buildings aligned to the positions of the sun.

Here is the impressive, 125 feet high, Pyramid of the Magician, surrounded by jungle. It has one of the steepest staircases in all the sites and is worth climbing, if you can.

The best-known ruin is the four square mile Mayan site of Chichen Itza. Thought to have been built around the ninth century A.D and then abandoned after twelfth.

It attracts many visitors to its spectacular stone platforms, pyramids and ball courts. Here you will find the one thousand lined Columns and the Temple of the Warriors, decorated with stone heads and long-snouted masks.

You can also climb the Castillo with its three room temples at the top. In the evening there is a fabulous sound and light show.

There are many ancient sites to visit in Mexico but there is also many natural wonders too.

One of these is the Copper Canyon.

It isn’t a single canyon, but a series of more than twenty canyons covering an area of over 20,000 square miles in northern Mexico.

It is four times larger than the Grand Canyon in the USA.

The scenery is breathtaking and one of the best ways to see it is by train. It is billed as “the world’s most exciting railroad trip”.

The line crosses thirty-six large bridges and eighty-seven tunnels, rising from sea level to a maximum height of 8000ft at its highest point.

Two main tours along the Chihuahua-Pacifico rail line are the Chihuahua al Pacifico, and the more luxurious South Orient Express.
