Maid of the Mist at Niagara Falls Vacation Packages and Hotel Deals

The Maid of the Mist Niagara Falls is only one of the many attractions at the falls.
It is also America’s top honeymoon destination!
Yes, even though the most visited Falls is on the Canadian side of the border.
The falls are one of the most visited, perhaps THE most visited, natural wonders of the world.
I say this because it is one of the most accessible.
From the American side it is only 17 miles away from Buffalo and on the Canadian side it is 75 miles away from Toronto.
Here are a few facts.
On the American side are the Bridal Veil Falls and the American Falls. The Larger Horseshoe Falls are mostly on the Canadian side. This area of the falls is the most developed and the most visited. It is this area that most people think of if they are looking for Niagara Falls vacation packages.
The Falls were formed when glaciers melted at the end of the last ice age and waters from the Great Lakes carved a path towards the Atlantic Ocean.
They are by no means the highest falls but they are very wide. More than 6 million cubic feet of water falls over the crest every minute when the flow is at its highest, on average it is almost 4 million cubic feet.
You don’t have to be a scientist or mathematician to know that is a lot of water and it is mind blowing just to try to understand how it keeps on coming.
The Maid of the Mist on the Canadian side of the Niagara River is an experience not to be missed. Powerful boats take you past the base of the American Falls and into the basin of the magnificent Canadian Niagara Horseshoe Falls, where you can feel the power of the water. Amazing!
It is a truly unique experience to sail towards the Falls and then for the boat to have its engines turned off while you stand on deck, bobbing up and down and feeling the spray.
The boats operate from late April/early May (weather dependent) to October 24 each year, and one of the Maid boats departs every 15 minutes. A recyclable souvenir raincoat is provided free with your admission price to help keep you dry from the mist and spray.
Most people want to get as close to the Falls as possible and the two most famous ways are behind the Falls and the Niagara boats I've mentioned. To go behind the Falls there are elevators down to viewing platform and tunnels.
Of course most visitors go to the falls not just to see them but also to have a good time. Niagara town around the falls has developed to make sure that there is everything the visitor wants to enjoy their visit.
There are hotels to suit every budget; some Niagara Falls hotel deals rival those in Las Vegas with their indoor water parks and entertainment centres. There are also two casinos near to many of the hotels, this is the Fallsview Tourist Area.
For younger visitors there is Marineland and the Butterfly Conservatory. Every age group is catered for and Niagara is a good place for a family visit.
Queen Victoria Park is a lovely observation point, within the gardens there are platforms with spectacular views of all the Falls, and there are underground walkways, which lead to observation rooms where you appear to be inside the falling waters.
To see the Falls from above there is the Skylon Tower and the Minolta Tower. If you want to see them from very high up there are balloon and helicopter rides, also the Whirlpool Aero Car, a cable car that will take you over the whirlpool on the Canadian side. So, there is something for everyone.
The viewing doesn’t stop when night falls. There are elevated restaurants where you have spectacular views of the Falls lit up. After dark the fun doesn’t stop, there are eateries to suit every budget and every demand from family dining to restaurants of the highest quality.
Let’s not forget the beginning of this review. Niagara Falls is a favourite honeymoon destination and the romantics among you are very well catered for. A stroll by the Falls at night, either before or after a romantic dinner and a stay in a luxurious hotel where you can be pampered to your heart’s content.
Often forgotten is the area around Niagara. Not too far away is Niagara on the Lake, a lovely old Colonial town nicknamed ‘the loveliest town in Canada’. It’s beginnings were as a village in 1792 as Newark but took the name Niagara in 1797. So this gives you an idea what to expect. It is definitely worth taking a day away from the Falls to visit this lovely old town. Some prefer to stay here and make this their base for the whole of the surrounding area.
If you are thinking of going to see Niagara Falls – go! Your only choice is which side?
