Its attraction is magnificent alpine scenery with forests, alpine flowers and wildlife such as the bearded vulture, golden eagle, capricorn, chamois, stag and marmots.
The major activities in the park are hiking on the eighty km plus of trails and wildlife watching. There are no bikes, no tents and no fires or stoves allowed in the park and there is no such thing as an overnight permit!
It takes about 2.5 hours from Zürich by car to Zernez the gateway to the national park and here you will find the visitor center. There is one road that runs through the national park, it is called "Pass dal Fuorn" and it connects Zernez with Müstair, a remote valley close to the Italian border. There are nine parking lots P1 to P9, which provide access to the various hiking trails.
Swiss cities and towns like Basel, Bern, cosmopolitan Geneva, Gstaad, Interlaken, Lausanne, St Moritz, Zermatt and Zürich make great bases and warrant visits and vacations in their own right.
