This info Toronto attractions page will give you a brief overview of the city.
Ontario has two large cities well worth a visit.
The other one is Ottawa.
The city is located on the banks of Lake Ontario and there has been a native Indian settlement here since the 17th century.
Its greatest growth took place after the Second World War so it is obviously a very modern city.
The reason for the growth was the influx of immigrants, especially Italians.
A good place to start your visit is the CN Tower. It is, at the time of writing this article, the world’s second tallest freestanding structure and a very famous visitor attraction. Go to the top and you will see the city spread out before you and easily pick out the sights.
The first thing to note is that Toronto things to do are many and it has an excellent transport system. The subway runs east/west and north/south and the areas around the stations are served by buses and streetcars (trams). If you want to go further out into the suburbs you can use the GO Transit train service, information on this is freely available.
The waterfront is always a big attraction in any city that has one, in Toronto’s case it is the Harbour front. If you have started with the CN tower then you are already in the area. One thing to mention about the tower apart from the views is the glass floor, which is 342 metres above the ground, walk on it if you dare, and the glass fronted elevators shoot up the outside.
The inside staircase is the longest in the world with 1,776 steps. How to get up there then? Tough choice.
The Rogers Centre is also by the Toronto harbour front and it was the first stadium to have a retractable roof. If you are a sports fan you might be able to see a game of football or baseball during your visit.
If you pay a visit to the Downtown district there you will see the Art Gallery of Ontario and the City Hall. The Art Gallery has exhibits from the 14th to the 21st century and has a superb collection of over 20 Henry Moore bronzes.
The City Hall is worth a look and a stroll around the plaza which is used as a skating rink in winter. The Hall was built in 1964 and was not well received at the time and even today it is still very ‘modern’.
Another building with a futuristic look is the Royal Ontario Museum and the range of exhibits is huge from a Dinosaur gallery to the Canada gallery to the galleries of Africa and Egypt.
If you want to take a break from the city why not visit the Toronto Islands. These are connected by footbridges and have a wonderful car-free environment.
It only takes about half an hour to walk from one end of the islands to the other. If you don’t want to walk you can cycle and hire the two-person buggy type cycles.
If you have children with you on your visit you may want to visit Toronto Zoo. my information is that it is one of the world’s best zoos. It is situated in the Rouge River Valley and is very easy to get to either by car or public transport.
There are well-marked trails if you wish to walk around and see the animals in large spaces that echo their natural habitat. If walking isn’t your thing then you can catch the Zoo mobile and take a 30-minute ride complete with commentary.
Another fun day with, or without, the kids is Black Creek pioneer village. It is a collection of old buildings moved to this one area to make a mock up village. The staff dress in period costume, provide information and demonstrate skills such as candle making, printing and baking. It is piece of living history and great fun.
If you like shopping there is the magnificent Eaton Centre and if you like eating or sipping coffee watching the world go by, Toronto café society is the very thing. I will just point out for fans of the hit show ‘Frasier’ that there is a Café Nervosa.
Of course there are loads of places I haven’t even mentioned. There are Performance arts venues and a Science museum to name but two. It's not hard to find Toronto what to do things for any kind of weather.
This is just to give you a flavour of the city, which, by the way, is within easy visiting distance of Niagara Falls.
