Tunisia - Sousse Port el Kantaoui Sidi Bou Said Carthage Tours

<<

>>

The best beach Tunisia Sousse or Hammamet is hard to choose because they are all pretty wonderful.

However this is a very popular holiday destination for many reasons.

The wonderful climate is one very good reason.

Because it is hot in the summer months and quite pleasant during the winter.

Although there are times when it can be cool and wet.

Tunis is the capital and ok to visit but not for a longer stay.

The main large tourist towns are Sousse and Hammamet, which are popular with tourists.

Hammamet is definitely for those who want beaches and somewhere more familiar to stay. By that I mean somewhere more modern with pedestrianised streets and plenty of restaurants and shops.

It is quite a small town with not so much history as Sousse, although the medina is very old of course but it is not as atmospheric as Sousse.

On the eastern coast lies Sousse, which has a beautiful Medina and traditional souk or market.

The souks are the traditional shopping areas and the one in Sousse is particularly well known and a big tourist attraction.

In Sousse there are hotels to suit every budget from cheap and cheerful all the way up to the very expensive and select.

If you want something a little more select then Tunisia Kantaoui would be a good place to try.

It is built around Port El Kantaoui Marina in the style of a traditional blue and white village.

At Port El Kantaoui there are many sports to enjoy and obviously there is sailing and water skiing.

Kantaoui is a quaint town with low-rise buildings, cobbled street and many small shops to enjoy along with many sidewalk cafes to while away a pleasant hour and sip the strong Turkish coffee.

Tunisia Sidi Bou Said is a popular destination.

It has a steep cobbled main street with very traditional whitewashed houses that are covered in bougainvillea and jasmine.

There are many teashops where you can try the sweet mint tea while relaxing on cushions.

Of course there are hotels here too and Sidi Bou Said is a great place if you want somewhere more out of the way.

There is more to this country than just beaches.

There is a wealth of history and perhaps the most famous of all historical sites is Tunisia Carthage.

Carthage is fifteen km north of Tunis and was founded in the eighth century BC.

Carthage has a chequered history as it was taken over by the Romans, then razed to the ground by the Phoenicians then taken back by the Romans who built Carthage into a beautiful new city.

There has been a lot of restoration work at the Carthage site with a lovely new museum and restored showpieces.

There is also a Roman amphitheatre at Carthage that is used for summer festivals.

If you prefer something more adventurous and appreciate natural surroundings you can take a safari into the Sahara desert.

A good place to begin your safari is Douz. It is quite a large town and there is a huge selection of trips available.

You can have just a half day camel trek with a Bedouin guide or you spend one or more night out in the desert.

You have a wide choice of accommodation too. You can choose to stay in a tent or hotel, depends how authentic you want your experience to be.

Also, Douz hosts a Saharan Festival each year around November or December with traditional dancing, markets and even camel racing.

This is the complete opposite to Hammamet and more suitable for those looking for a more cultural and wide experience.

As for food you can be sure there is something to suit every taste.

Lamb is widely used and varies from spicy hot to sweet. There are many different rice dishes, and of course the traditional ‘brik’ which is thin pastry with a luscious egg filling.

If yours is a sweet tooth there are the rich pastries with very sweet fillings.

However the influences range from French to Turkish to Middle Eastern so the food will be a part of your visit to look forward to.

Tour Tunisia for beaches and so much more.
