The legacies of the Hittites, Greeks, Romans, Christian apostles, Byzantines and Ottoman Turks are found in Istanbul and are scattered throughout the country.

Cappadocia is one area not to be missed.

No visit to Turkey would be complete without a visit to Istanbul.

Istanbul is the only city in the world built on two continents.

Istanbul formally called Constantinople, is the largest city in the country and is full of Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman palaces, mosques, churches, monasteries, monuments, walls and ruins.

Istanbul and sightseeing is a matter of making choices as to what to see and when.

One of the most famous Istanbul monuments to visit is the Sultan Ahmet Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque.

The mosque has six towering minarets and 260 windows illuminating its vast main chamber, which is decorated with more than 20,000 Iznik tiles.

Istanbul also has the largest and oldest palace in the world, the Topkapi. This was the crown jewel of the Ottoman Empire and is worth a visit.

Then there is the Hagia Sophia built in the 6th century by the Emperor Justinian, one of the largest basilicas in the Christian world. After the Ottoman conquest, it was converted to a mosque and is today one of the most magnificent museums in the world.

A visit to the fourteenth century, Istanbul Grand Bazaar one of the world's largest covered markets, with 58 streets and over 4,000 shops, is not to be missed.

This Istanbul bazaar is specially known for its jewellery, leather, pottery, spices and carpets.
