However it is true that people who do take regular vacations do reduce the risk of ‘premature’ death and enjoy other benefits as well as enjoying the holiday. Researchers have found that they are less likely to be tense, depressed, or suffer marital dissatisfaction. They sleep longer, deeper while bonding better with family and friends. They tend to be more fun to be with. The research also found that the benefits fell away when people kept in touch with their work. They also tended to alienate their family by putting work first. It’s better to forget it. To have a total break. So if you’re taking a vacation break tell everyone you’re going to be away and can’t be contacted. Make a promise to your family. Then discipline yourself not to check your email, answer your cell phone, your office voicemail or your blackberry. If you only do work on your laptop, leave it at home. Some employees consider vacations a waste of time or are anxious as to the security of their job. If you can't make up your mind about going on vacation just consider the benefits for you and your family. Not many people on their deathbed wished they’d worked more so take advantage of your holiday entitlement.
