Places to see Vancouver Landmarks are largely determined by individual taste and preferences.
This cosmopolitan city has something for all.
It is easy to get around whether you choose walking, taking a cab, a bus or the sky train.
From the airport that is located in Richmond district, you walk straight out of the exit on to the briges to the Sky Train, which will take you downtown in about twenty minutes.
Downtown is very compact with plenty of different grades of hotels to suit every kind of budget. There are also a myriad of restaurants, cafes and takeaways together with lots and lots of shopping.
There are hop on and off bus tours that take you to the sightseeing places and you can take a ferry across to the north shore.
This is also a very easy way to get to Vancouver Grouse Mountain because as you get off the ferry the bus is waiting to take you to this favourite city outdoor playground. The journey on the bus takes aground fifteen to twenty minutes.
Grouse Mountain is used for skiing and winter sports and in the summer is popular for hiking and other attractions.
You can hike to the top if you wish. The distance is just over three kilometres with an elevation of two thousand and eight hundred feet and will take you around an hour and a half.
The alternative is the Sky Ride Swiss cable car that whisks you to the top in around three minutes.
At the top there is a large lodge for food and gifts with viewing platforms giving panoramic view over the city. This also contains a theatre in the sky that shows good informative films.
Outside are hiking or skiing trails and an endangered wildlife refuge center, which is home to Grizzly Bears and Wolves. Other activities are a Lumber Jack show and a Birds of Prey show. You can also zip line or climb inside a wind turbine. Grouse Mountain makes for a great day out.
Just down the road from the mountain is the Vancouver Suspension Bridge at Capilano. This bridge crosses a four hundred and fifty feet gorge with the river being two hundred and thirty feet below. It’s fun to cross the bridge and the more people on the bridge the greater the sway and bounce of the bridge. Kids of all ages love it!
On the other side of the bridge are boardwalks through the redwoods and other kinds of trees. There is also a treetop walk that is a hundred feet above the forest floor. This treetop adventure is a series of suspended walkways that loops around to where you started. The Capilano Suspension Bridge is good fun.
Vancouver Stanley Park is a wonderful green space that is just before the Lions Gate Bridge and here you can see a wonderful display of Totem Poles with a very comprehensive explanation as to why they are carved. The park is used for many recreational purposes such as jogging, hiking, cycling and roller blading.
At the heart of the park is the Aquarium that is a ninety thousand square foot facility that attracts around a million visitors a year. The Aquarium has many magnificent displays and offers dolphin shows, beluga whale shows and many hands on animal encounters. There is also a 4D theatre that has a number of different shows for all ages.
One Vancouver dine out experience not to be missed is the revolving restaurant at the top of the lookout at the Harbour Centre. It is situated above the viewing deck on the tower. At around five hundred and sixty feet or fifty storeys above street level you will enjoy a three hundred and sixty degree panoramic view of the city as you eat your dinner or lunch.
Other districts of Vancouver downtown you could visit are:
Chinatown, Gastown and Yaletown.
