Cambodia is now emerging as a varied travel and tourist destination.

Other aspects of the Cambodia culture are being put forward.

Such as, relaxing tropical beaches, coral islands and tropical forests.

Plus the cambodian mountain ranges of the Dangrek, Cardomen and Elephant mountains.

Cambodia today is much smaller than the mighty Khmer empire that encompassed much of what is now Thailand, Vietnam and Laos.

Now the Kingdom of Cambodia it is bordered by the Gulf of Thailand to the south, Thailand to the east, with Vietnam to the West and Laos to the North. Cambodia covers an area of 181,035 square km and is divided into 21 provinces.

Being relatively flat and flooding during the rainy season vast acres of land are given over to rice production.

Cambodia holidays are popular because the country enjoys almost all year sunshine and has a high average temperature.

There are two distinct seasons, the dry and the monsoon. The monsoon lasts from May to October and the dry season runs from November to April. When you visit Cambodia will be determined by this.

Travel and health insurance should be up to date as healthcare standards are minimal, especially in rural areas. Also preventive measures against mosquitoes with proper clothing and insect repellent is a must unless you want to be one of the main attractions for the mosquitoes.

The official currency is the Riel but in the major towns and cities the US dollars is the actual currency. Carry a lot of small bills when you visit Cambodia and you’ll get by fine. The ATMs will dispense your cash in dollars and you can even pay your departure tax with it.

After thirty years of war and the terror of Pol Pot (when an estimated 1.7 million Cambodians died in a three year period from starvation, exhaustion, torture and execution) a peace dividend is beginning to benefit the people. As travel and tourism begins to benefit Cambodia.

Cambodia architecture is on par with many of the wonders of the world such as Egypt, Machu Picchu or the Aztec Monuments. The imposing temple complex at Angkor, built between the ninth and 13th centuries by Khmer kings, is a UN heritage site and a big draw for tourist and is a must as you visit Cambodia.
