In 1931 with the legalization of gambling the early development of the hotel-casino came into being.
In 1935 the Hoover Dam was completed and the USA’s largest man-made lake and reservoir was created in Lake Mead. In the wake of this other communities were formed, together with vacation opportunities in the desert. Then in the 1940’s further development took place in the area and led to many people wanting to visit Las vegas.
In the late 1960’s the billionaire Howard Hughes began to purchase casino-hotels and television stations in the city. Following his lead other legitimate corporations began to invest in casino-hotels as pure business ventures. The crime aspect was replaced over the years by the multi national business corporations and big investors creating what you see to day.
More than 2,500 technology companies converge here with an international consumer electronics show which is one of the world’s largest technology gatherings.
While some of the newest companies visit Las Vegas the city's tolerance for various forms of adult entertainment remains.
Sin city has ben celebrated in music by many including Elvis, ZZ Top and ACDC.
